Gamboa Teaches Performance Art

UCLA Extension is offering a new course this fall, Multimedia Performance and Social Perception in Daily Life, October 2 through December 11.
Taught by artist Harry Gamboa, the course is designed for students who want to respond creatively to their urban/suburban environment through multimedia and/or conceptual performance pieces.
Topics to be covered by Gamboa and guest speakers will be usefulness of text, audio and visual imagery in conjunction with live performers, the suspension of disbelief, the idea of audience, linear versus cyclical narrative, the real world as a stage, rumor and myth-building, working within the limits of memorization, machines and site specifications and dealing with tolerance and intolerance in the environment.
Each student will produce a completed performance project incorporating more than one media format in the development and dissemination of images and action. The class will meet Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., October 2 through December 11, at UCLA. To register, call 310 825 9971.
