With proceeds going to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica, local residents are encouraged to attend the inaugural Get Fit Be Fit 5 & 10K this Sunday, Nov. 13, to both celebrate and benefit the westside community.

FrontRunners, the trend-leading Brentwood footwear and fitness fashion resource, will host the event.

The family-friendly day will include a 10K, 5K and Kids’ 1K, as well as a Fitness Expo featuring local merchants, restaurants, and more.

And for those who need additional incentive to get off the couch, the event will benefit a number of local youth charities – including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica.

“We’ve been in Brentwood for more than 30 years,” says Paul Tordella, president of FrontRunners. “It’s a warm, close-knit place. We want to put on a family-friendly event where everyone can come together, have some fun, and take part at the pace that fits them. And it just makes sense to have the race benefit kids throughout our area.”

The Get Fit Be Fit event benefits four local charities in three important ways.

First, FrontRunners has pledged donations to each: Boys and Girls Clubs of Santa Monica, Connections for Children, Canyon Charter Elementary School, and Magic Shoe Foundation.

Second, each organization shares in race profits.

And third, event participants have the opportunity to make additional direct donations to the cause of their choice.

“The youth of our community need our commitment and support, and local companies like FrontRunners make it possible for us to do that,” said Aaron Young, President and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Santa Monica. “Another reason this race is important is that it reinforces the importance of a critical pillar in our Club programming: healthy lifestyles.”

The lush, flat 10k course traces a double loop along coral-tree lined San Vicente Blvd., one of the most scenic thoroughfares on the West Coast.

Race organizers predict an event with more than 1500 participants, and thousands of volunteers and supporters cheering from the curb. Included for the day are 5 and 10K races, and a Kids 1K.

Leading local sponsors include UCLA Health System, Giannetti Home, and Los Angeles Center for Advanced Medicine, PC.

They will join more than two dozen fitness, health, and nutrition brands at the event Fitness Expo.
