Santa Monica Rep, the West Side’s newest theater company, will conclude David Auburn’s award-winning play “Proof” this Saturday, May 12. “Proof” centers on Catherine, a young woman whose father, Robert, died after suffering from a debilitating mental illness. Robert was a mathematical genius, and, while Catherine may have inherited some of his abilities, she may have inherited his illness as well. Santa Monica College Opera Theater presents “Cosi fan Tutte,” a work by Mozart today through May 13 starring Gregorio Gonzalez as Guglielmo. Gonzalez is one of the up and coming talents in opera today. Deleyaman Live in Concert: The Change Things Tour. Dark-wave, new age band Deleyaman performs an intimate concert at 8:30 p.m. at the Santa Monica Playhouse. Based in France, the four members of Deleyaman are of American-Armenian, French-Armenian, French, and Swedish descent and use lyrics and instruments from their respective countries. Their songs are melodic and soulful, every note and word packed with deep emotion. Their sound has been described as a dark, harmonious, and sacred vibe that combines smooth, choral-influenced vocals with the mourning sounds of the Armenian duduk. The historic walls of the Merry-Go-Round Building at the Santa Monica Pier will be home to a new photography exhibit called ‘Child’s Play’ through May 28 and explore the fun, awkward, whimsical, magical memories, and moments of childhood featuring the collaboration of three local photo-artists: Ellen Freyer, Judy Raffel, and Eileen Rapke. The exhibit is open to the public and children are welcome. Sixth Annual Green Prize for Sustainable Literature. The Santa Monica Public Library announces a call for entries for the sixth annual Green Prize for Sustainable Literature. It was created to encourage and commend authors, illustrators, and publishers who produce quality books that make significant contributions to, and broaden public awareness of, sustainability. Authors, illustrators and publishers are encouraged to submit titles for consideration.
