SMRR Steering Committee Betrayed In Village Trailer Park Decision: Letter To The Editor

Posted Nov. 16, 2012, 6:34 am

Letter To The Editor

Dear Editor:

On Wednesday, in a 4-2 decision, City Council was given a choice between two plans for a development agreement for the Village Trailer Park. One option gave the developer, many millions of dollars, in special development rights, greatly in excess of zoning code, as a reward for destroying an entire neighborhood, and throwing 100 families out of their homes. The other plan, gave the developer less special rights, but preserved the homes of the remaining residents.

The two deciding votes were cast by Terry O’Day and Pam O’Connor, who’s SMRR nominations were rejected by a majority of the SMRR members, who participated in endorsement elections.

However, the SMRR Steering Committee overrode the vote of its membership, and gave Mr. O’Day and Ms. O’Connor, the SMRR endorsement, which directing resulted in their winning their seats on City Council.

The results of the SMRR Steering Committee’s betrayal, to its membership, has now come to fruition, as City Council has adopted the policy that developers can now use development agreements as a tool to destroy rent control housing.

Sincerely,

Jeff Segal

The only thing that is more pathetic than SMRR Steering Committee backed council members sticking it to the citizenry is that an SMRR member pinhead is actually surprised by the "betrayal". Anyone who has spent any time observing the reality of SMRR-backed minions should know that the concerns of its members are the least of SMRR's worries. The history of self-dealing; insider trading and feather-bedding by the SMRR brass is enough to gag even the worst of Chicago's ward-heelers. So, wake up and smell the corruption, Mr. Segal!

Recall the council, investigate the corruption and file criminal charges. When are the people of Santa Monica going to realize that the council is as corrupted? The city of Bell and Vernon did it! Is SM that dumb to ignore this?
