Caring for someone with dementia is a challenging undertaking.

To help, UCLA Health, in conjunction with Wise & Healthy Aging and the City of Santa Monica, is hosting a half-day educational seminar to support and care for caregivers this Saturday, May 31.

The free program includes presentations that will offer tools to better cope with caregiver demands, updates on the latest research on Alzheimer’s disease, information on training resources and referral services, and interactive workshops on meditation and massage techniques.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to consult individually with UCLA geriatric medical experts and care managers about their specific concerns.

“With an aging population and a growing number of Americans suffering from dementia, more spouses, children and siblings are becoming primary caregivers of their loved ones, and many don’t know where to turn for support and resources,” said Linda Ercoli, PhD, UCLA geriatric psychologist and a presenter at the event. “This workshop is designed to assist those in the community who carry this difficult burden, and to alleviate some of the stress most feel as they deal with the long-term challenges Alzheimer’s disease presents.”

The free seminar is on Saturday, May 31 from 9:30 am to 1 pm at Wise & Healthy Aging, 1527 4th Street, Santa Monica.

Reservations are suggested. To register, call 1.800.516.5323.
