Somatic Movement Arts Festival In Santa Monica Amplifies Body-Mind Awareness:

The 8th Somatic Movement Arts Festival culminates this weekend with three embodiment performances at 18th Street Arts Complex in Santa Monica, following a week of creative body-mind-movement workshops since Tuesday.

The festival has featured 15 somatic artists who have offered “revolutionary creativity and self-care” information in classes. Today through Sunday that information will be taught through performance. Neuroplasicity will be explored by offering transformational audience experiences that are infused with sensuality, aliveness, and innovation.

The festival is the creative culmination of a dream following seven years of successful events.

More than 100 internationally renowned Somatic Movement artists/instructors have been featured to date.

The festival’s mission is to foster body-mind-fullness, by deepening embodied consciousness in practice, performance, and daily life.

Founded in 2007, SOMAfest fosters and promotes the study, practice, and appreciation of Somatic wellness and creativity.

The festival provides a variety of services to individuals from all walks of life.

SOMAfest brings together international artists from diverse movement practices in workshops and performances.

Event organizers say somatic practices help amplify body-mind awareness and physical performance, cultivating health, and creativity.

They say the field of Somatic Movement has proven that a little self-care and awareness goes a long way toward better physical and emotional wellbeing, enhanced creativity and performance capacity in work and on stage, as well as improved communication and relationships.

This weekend’s three embodiment performances are “kinesthetically charged contemporary and improvisational work infused with sensuality, aliveness and innovation.”

The embodiment performances look to the biology of the body to find that all life is movement, and the fluid system of the body is an innate choreographer.

These dancers explore transformational movement experiences, where the body is a house of mystery, which can be accessed when we are present to the originality of our own experience.

Today the performance will be held at 8 pm at The Continuum Studio (1629 18th Street) and will be repeated Sunday at 3 pm. General tickets are $20 ($15 students/seniors).

Saturday’s performance will take place at 8 pm at Highways Performance Space (1651 18th Street #7). General tickets are $20 ($15 students/seniors).
