APB: The latest from Santa Monica Police Department, with a narrative twist.:

A Slice of Justice.

On Friday, April 1, at 6:50pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the 2400 block of Virginia Avenue in order to investigate a report of a possible assault with a deadly weapon. When the officers arrived at the location they spoke with the victim who told them that he had been involved in an argument with his female friend and that during the course of this verbal disagreement the female friend had produced a knife and placed the knife at his throat. The victim said that the female friend had then informed him that if she wanted to she could easily take his life by slicing his throat with the knife. He added that this woman then left the apartment but had returned after a few minutes and had attempted to re-enter the building by prying open a sliding window. This attempt to break in to the residence had caused damage to the sliding window, the victim claimed. The officers exited the building and spotted the suspect outside and arrested her without incident. The officers then searched this 45-year-old resident of Los Angeles and discovered the knife that she had used to threaten the victim concealed inside her purse. While being questioned by the officers the suspect gave the officers false personal information, so in addition to the charges of assault with a deadly weapon and vandalism she was also charged with false impersonation incurring criminal liability to third party. Bail was set at $30,000.

It’s Not Gr-r-reat!

On Friday, April 1, at 4:15am officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on a routine patrol in the area of Seventh Street and Wilshire Boulevard when they spotted a man who at that time was in the process of repeatedly punching another man who was lying on the ground. The officers immediately switched on their emergency lights and sounded their siren as they approached the scene of the crime. When the officers had made it clear, both visually and sonically, that they had witnessed the assault in progress the assailant began to run away. However, with the assistance of other officers who had chanced upon the activity, they apprehended the suspect and detained him while they spoke with the victim. The victim said that he had been on the sidewalk eating cereal when the suspect approached him and knocked the cereal out of his hands for no apparent reason. The victim added that this unwelcome act had initiated an argument between them and that the suspect had then attacked him, knocking him to the ground and punching him. Based upon the statements by the victim as well as by what they had witnessed themselves the officers arrested this 25-year-old Palmdale resident and he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and a violation of parole. Bail was not granted.

He was Possessed.

On Friday, April 1, at 7:00am officers of the Santa Monica Police Department conducted a search warrant at an address located in the 500 block of Colorado Avenue. The officers arrived at the location and knocked on the door several times. The officers suspected that the individual that they were seeking to speak with in regard to the search warrant was present in the building but was pretending that the he was not inside, so, after several attempts to enter the civilized way the officers determined that they had no other choice than to smash the door in in order to gain entry, so they did. When the officers entered they noticed the suspect inside the building accompanied by three other individuals. The officers escorted each one of these people out of the building one by one. The officers then asked the target suspect what his name was but instead of giving the officers his correct name he impersonated someone else. The officers, however, identified this man anyway and they asked him if he was in possession of any drug paraphernalia, to which he replied that he was not. The officers searched this man and discovered that he was in possession of a hypodermic needle and an opium pipe. The officers thus arrested this 26-year-old resident of Santa Monica and he was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, giving false information to police, and a violation of probation. Bail was set at $30,000.

Police Forces Collaborate After Tip Off.

On Friday, April 1, at 11:30pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a radio call from their colleagues at the Los Angeles Police Department informing them that they had detained a 23-year-old homeless man who they suspected was in possession of a stolen bicycle. The Santa Monica officers rushed to the location where the Los Angeles officers were detaining the suspect and spoke with their fellow officers. The Los Angeles officers told the Santa Monica officers that they had received a tip from a witness informing them that this homeless man possessed the stolen bicycle and that he was attempting to sell the conveyance. The Santa Monica officers then questioned the suspect and the suspect admitted to stealing the bicycle but claimed that he had stolen it in another jurisdiction, namely Hollywood. The officers could not at that time determine from where this man had stolen the bicycle but they decided that since he had admitted to stealing it they would arrest him anyway. This man was taken to jail where he was charged with being in possession of stolen property. Bail was set at $500.
