A 33-year-old homeless man was arrested Saturday, Sept. 14 after stealing $28 worth of ladies underclothes then threatening loss prevention agents with a pair of scissors.
At 2:50 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were sent to a retail store located in the 300 block of Colorado Avenue after a report was called in about a thief who had just fled from the premises.
When the officers arrived they conducted a foot search of the area but did not find the suspect. A pair of motorcycle officers however, did find a man who fit the description in the 1400 block of Fourth Street.
The officers ordered this suspect to stop and descend to the ground but initially he refused, so the officers informed him that if he continued to defy them he would suffer the effects of their X-26 Tasers.
This was the deciding factor in convincing the man that it was in his interests to obey them.
The loss prevention agent at the store told the officers that when they had attempted to detain this man at the store he had become belligerent and had threatened them with a pair of scissors.
The suspect was subsequently identified by the loss prevention agents in a field show up, and then arrested.
The officers discovered that he had $28 worth of ladies underclothes upon his person that he had lifted from the store.
This homeless man was charged with burglary, brandishing a dangerous weapon, delaying an investigation, and violation of probation.
Bail was set at $100,000.
