Thirty-year-old Walter James, of Highland, has been identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner's office as the man killed on a 2013 motor scooter on Saturday morning after a collision with a Santa Monica Police Department Cruiser.

James was on a scooter headed east on Pico when he reportedly ran a red light and collided with a SMPD cruiser that was traveling north on Fourth Street.

The collision happened at 7:40 am at the intersection of Pico Boulevard and Fourth Street.

James was pronounced dead at a hospital while the officer suffered moderate injuries and also transported to a hospital for treatment.

Anyone see the accident? From the debris in the photo, it looks more like the cruiser hit the scooter than vice versa.

I just met James like 4 months ago and he is a really good guy.he was working as a security guard near by, we had just had a talk about he's personal life with he's mom and step father. I told him I'm also a step pos and discipline is needed and he agreed and said well maybe I shouldn't be so upset with his parents and that we had a conversation that change his mind of how he felt about his stepfather I'm glad I could talk to him Othello bring him some peace in his life.

Quick to judgment aren't we.? I saw the video from the am pm store the first time it was on before someone blocked it and it showed nothing of the signals or colors and where are the results to the investigation, to say the young man ran the red light? . I have seen nothing on line yet.
