Fire Extinguished In Downtown:

Santa Monica firefighters put out a blaze that ignited at 1305 Second Street in the downtown shortly after 5 p.m., Sgt. Roger Lewis of the Santa Monica Police Dept. told The Mirror.

There were no reported injuries; however, at least six units were significantly burned, causing the residents of those units to be displaced and search for alternate housing.

Tenants residing in the other units will allowed into their respective apartments at about 8 p.m., Lewis said.

The cause of the explosion is not yet determined and an investigation is currently underway.

Sgt. Lewis stated there is no evidence to indicate the fire was reportedly preceded by a large explosion.

The fire occurred near the intersection of Second Street and Arizona.
