A 33-year-old Santa Monica resident was arrested and charged with public intoxication and battery upon a police officer on Saturday, Oct. 25 after causing havoc on the streets and touching a woman’s breast.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on patrol in downtown Santa Monica at 4:35 pm on this day when they were called to investigate a report of assault in the area of Second Street and Santa Monica Boulevard.
The officers were told via radio that the suspect had been knocking down signs and had also grabbed a woman’s breast.
The officers were also informed that the reporting party was following the suspect as he walked south along Second Street.
The officers located the suspect at the top of the Santa Monica Pier ramp and asked the suspect if he was “okay.”
The suspect responded to the courteous inquiry by yelling obscenities.
The officers noted the suspect had bloodshot eyes, a flushed face, and reeked of alcohol. This suspect then became physically combative and asked the officers if they would care for a fight.
The officers declined the invitation and instead arrested him. Bail was set at $20,000.
