Man Arrested After Stealing Beer, Whiskey From Santa Monica Haggen’s Market:

A 38-year-old man was arrested on Friday, May 29, after stealing beer and whiskey from Haggen’s Market in Santa Monica. Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department went to the Haggen’s at 2627 Lincoln Blvd. at 3:15 pm in order to investigate a theft report.

Upon arrival the officers spoke with the loss prevention agent of the store who told them that he had detained a man who had entered the store, selected a pack of three beers and a bottle of whiskey from the shelves, and then left the store without paying for the alcohol.

The loss prevention agent then told the officers that he had apprehended this man outside the store, identified himself as the loss prevention agent, and had escorted the suspect back into the store whereupon he had called police.

The loss prevention agent was desirous of a private person’s arrest and the officers duly obliged and arrested this individual of an undisclosed place of residence and he was charged with theft. Bail was set at $1,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of The Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
