An out-of-control homeless man was arrested in downtown Santa Monica on Saturday, Aug. 3 after yelling at people and threatening to kill them.

At 12:20 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the 1300 block of Second Street in order to investigate a report of a man who was threatening people.

When the officers arrived at the scene they were told the man had run eastbound on Santa Monica Boulevard.

Another police unit detained this man at the intersection of Third Street Promenade and Santa Monica Boulevard.

The officers attempted to speak with the suspect, but he suddenly made a break and attempted to flee.

The officers gave chase and quickly caught hold of this man and took him down to the ground and handcuffed him.

This man continued his loud and boisterous tirade, informing the officers that he “hated them,” and that he was “going to kill them as well.”

As a result of this man’s behavior, the officers arrested him, and he was charged with forcibly resisting arrest and public intoxication while being under the influence of drugs.

This 45-year-old homeless man was granted bail in the amount of $20,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
