Bail was set at $20,000 on Saturday, Sept. 7 for a 39-year-old homeless man who stripped down naked near the Third Street Promenade then acted aggressively toward responding police officers.
At 1:15 am officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were on a routine foot patrol in Third Street Promenade at the corner of Santa Monica when a woman beckoned to them.
The officers spoke to the woman who told them she had just seen a man sitting on a bus bench about half a block east of them.
The woman added that the man was completely naked from the waist down.
The officers went to have a look and saw a man who was by then completely naked lying on the ground.
The officers attempted to speak with this man but he ignored them.
The officers then attempted to restrain this man but he arose and attempted to punch the officers.
One of the officers used his baton and struck the suspect once in the upper leg to control him.
This was successful because the man then surrendered and adopted a compliant demeanor.
The officers took this man to a local medical facility where he was checked and cleared for arrest.
This homeless man was charged with assault on a police officer, obstructing police officers, and violation of probation.
Bail was set at $20,000.
