A 61-year-old homeless woman who woke up in a rage on a bus stop bench was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 1 after cutting a person with a knife.
Officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the area of Lincoln Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard at 11 pm on this day in order to investigate a report of a woman who was brandishing a pair of knives.
Upon arrival the officers located the suspect and noticed she was holding a meat cleaver as well as a long fixed-blade knife.
The officers asked the woman to drop the weapons and she complied immediately.
The officers then went in search of the reported victim and discovered him nearby.
The officers spoke with the victim who told them that earlier he had walked to the bus stop at the intersection where he had noticed the suspect sleeping on the bus bench with a blanket wrapped around her.
He said that at that point the suspect had woken up and had become instantly enraged and had started chasing the victim whilst flailing the knives around her person wildly.
The victim had subsequently sustained a defensive wound to his thumb and index finger, which he displayed to the officers.
He added that after the attack the suspect had simply walked away from him as if nothing had happened.
The officers arrested the homeless woman, and she was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. It was not known at time of going to press whether or not bail was granted.
