Santa Monica Purse Snatcher Tracked Down, Arrested In Canoga:

Bail was set at $200,000 for a Canoga man after stealing a purse from a woman dining at a Santa Monica restaurant.

On Wednesday, Dec. 9, at 7:50 pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the Sushi Roku restaurant, located in the 1400 block of Ocean Ave. in order to investigate a report of a theft that had taken place at the location.

When the officers arrived at the restaurant they spoke with the victim who told them that earlier that evening she had been enjoying sushi with the company of friends at the restaurant and that she had hung her purse on the back of her chair while she dined.

She said that at some point during the course of the evening she had noticed that her purse was no longer hanging from the back of her chair and that she had informed the staff of the restaurant and it was at that time that the police had been summoned.

The officers viewed some CCTV recordings of the restaurant that evening and these recordings had shown that two females and a male had entered the restaurant at the time that the victim had noticed that her purse was missing and that one of these three individuals had left with the purse.

Using advanced identification technology the officers were able to identify the suspect and the next day they arrested this 24-year-old man.

This individual was charged with burglary and bail was set at $200,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of The Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
