Santa Monica to Host LA County’s First Neighborhood Parks Discussion:

Santa Monica will host LA County’s first regional public meeting Monday to discuss needs assessments and funding measures to support parks. Park Representatives will facilitate discussion, highlighting the need of $21.5 billion for neighborhood parks and open spaces across LA County.

Details

What: County officials and park users will be available to provide information on a new countywide Needs Assessment study of parks and open spaces, which found that more than 51% of LA residents do not live within a half mile of a park – far below the national average. The study identified about $21.5 billion in needs to support LA’s neighborhood parks and open spaces. This is the first of 11 community meetings scheduled in all five supervisorial districts to discuss the findings of the countywide Needs Assessment study and a funding measure to support countywide parks.

Who: Park representatives and park users throughout LA County will be available to speak to the Needs Assessment at the conclusion of the community meeting.

Why: Following the completion of a 16-month needs assessment process, representatives of the Los Angeles County Regional Park and Open Space District will discuss a potential new funding measure to support parks and open space throughout LA at a public community meeting. The Park Needs Assessment, an unprecedented, countywide assessment of parks and recreation spaces collected feedback from residents of 88 cities throughout LA. The conclusions of the assessment indicated a $21.5 billion need to support the upkeep and development of the County’s parks, recreation areas and open spaces.

Date: Monday, May 9, 2016 – the first in a series of 11 meetings held countywide

Time: 7-8:30pm – Discussion of Needs Assessment and Funding Options

Where: Santa Monica Civic Auditorium – East Wing, 1855 Main Street, Santa Monica.
