The Latest Police Blotters:

He Took Wine From the Canyon.

On Wednesday, April 13, at 4:08am officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to an audible burglar alarm at the Rustic Canyon Wine Bar and Restaurant located at 1119 Wilshire Boulevard. As the officers arrived at the location they spotted a suspect running away from the location carrying a trash bag that the officers surmised contained the suspect’s booty. The officers gave chase on foot and after a few moments caught up with this man and detained him. During this foot pursuit the suspect dropped the trash bag and the officers picked it up and looked inside. The trash bag revealed its contents to be several bottles of wine, a cell phone and a pair of socks that the officers deduced had been utilized as gloves that the suspect had used in order to avoid leaving finger prints. The officers also inspected the restaurant and saw that a forced entry had been made to a storage container that was located along the south side of the building. The officers then contacted the owner of the restaurant who arrived at the location shortly afterwards and was able to positively identify the wine bottles as being of the kind that the restaurant had in stock. The officers searched the suspect, aged 24 and homeless, and discovered some marijuana upon his person. This man was arrested and taken to jail where he was charged with burglary, illegal possession of marijuana and a violation of probation. Bail was not granted. Later that day surveillance footage showed that two other suspects had accompanied the suspect during the burglary. These suspects are still at large and officers are actively searching for them.

Curb Your Enthusiasm.

On Friday, April 29, at 3:40pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department, who had been assigned to patrol the downtown area, received a call informing them of a battery that had just occurred in the 1300 block of Third Street. The officers rushed to the location and located the victim in addition to a witness. The officers spoke with these individuals and learned that the witness had been sitting on the concrete curb accompanied by the victim. The suspect had approached the pair and had requested that he join them in their conversation. When the victim demurred the suspect apparently became upset and suddenly kicked the victim in the face. The victim had, as a result of the kick, sustained a bloody nose and abrasions to his face. The suspect had stayed in the general area and the victim was able to point this man out to the officers who quickly detained him. The officers questioned this man and he told the officers that he did indeed kick the victim but added that he had done so because he thought that the victim was going to attack him with a deadly weapon. The officers deduced that this had not been the case at all and so they arrested this 47-year-old homeless man and he was charged with assault with a deadly weapon (his foot). Bail was set at $30,000.

 Deli-vered?

On Friday, April 29, at 8:10pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department received a radio call informing them that a strong-arm robbery had occurred at the Interactive Café, located at 215 Broadway. The officers sped to the scene and spoke with an employee of the café. This employee told the officers that the suspect had entered the restaurant and had selected several items from the deli counter. The suspect had then attempted to exit the restaurant without paying for the merchandise and when the employee had confronted him the suspect had raised his fists and made verbal threats to harm the employee. The suspect had then left the scene without paying for the deli items. The officers, armed with a detailed description of this man went in search of him and discovered this suspect on the Santa Monica Pier. This man was arrested and charged with robbery. Bail for this 34-year-old homeless man was set at $50,000

All in All it’s Just Another Brick in the Window.

On Tuesday, April 26, at 10:21pm officers of the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a radio call informing them that an act of vandalism had occurred at a private residence located in the 1000 block of Palisades Beach Road. The officers spoke with the victim who told them that the suspect had, for no apparent reason, thrown a brick through the front window of the domicile. The victim added that this person was still in the area and pointed the suspect out to the officers. The victim told the officers that they were desirous of a prosecution so the officers arrested this 39-year-old homeless man and he was charged with vandalism to the window that amounted to damage valued at $1,500. Bail was set in the amount of $20,000.
