Imerman Angels, a one-on-one cancer support community connecting those battling cancer and their caregivers with cancer survivors, is showing there is no-limit to cancer support by launching their Inaugural Casino Night Fundraiser at Michael’s Santa Monica on Sunday, Nov. 8, along with Siprut PC.
For $60 general admission and $100 VIP entry, guests receive “play money” to bet the odds in craps, roulette, poker, and blackjack, while enjoying complimentary bites and libations on Michael’s Santa Monica iconic garden patio.
Winnings from the night will be cashed in for raffle tickets for the chance to win prizes from Los Angeles based yoga and fitness studios, hotels, restaurants and more; along with a featured silent auction.
Hosted bar provided by Erdington Americas, Lagunitas Brewing Company, O’Neill Vitners & Distillers, Pura Vida Tequila with Diabolo and Veev Spirits. All event proceeds will benefit the Imerman Angels Los Angeles cancer support community.
Based out of Chicago, Imerman Angels recently launched in Los Angeles with Regional Director Jordyn Goodman taking the helm earlier this year.
The organization’s tag line is “Because no one should face cancer alone,” and it’s a message that hits home for both Goodman and Imerman’s founder, Jonny Imerman.
When Goodman’s father died of cancer last summer, she wished there had been a support system for her and her mother for what they went through as caretakers.
That’s when she discovered Imerman’s story.
“Imerman Angels started in 2003 by Jonny Imerman who was diagnosed with testicular cancer at 26,” Goodman told the Mirror in July. “During it all, although he had amazing friends and family supporting him, he never met someone who was his age and going through the same thing.”
That’s when Imerman founded the partnership for anyone seeking cancer support “with someone just like you,” or with what they call a Mentor Angel.
A Mentor Angel is a cancer survivor or caregiver who is the same age, same gender, and most importantly who has faced the same type of cancer. The service is free and helps anyone touched by any type of cancer, at any cancer stage level, at any age, living anywhere in the world. Imerman went onto become a CNN Hero in 2012.
“We’ve had just about 11,000 matches in about 14 different countries,” Goodman said. “It doesn’t matter where anyone is.”
Imerman Los Angeles is now getting ready to launch Team Imerman Angels, a group of individuals who participate in events ranging from a marathon and half marathon to triathlons to their recent Soul Cycle fundraising ride.
“We’re hoping through these small events like this amazing yoga event, we are creating more awareness that this free cancer service and that it’s out there,” Goodman said.
