Enjoy Free Beach Sports At The Annenberg Community Beach House:

Did you know The Annenberg Community Beach House offers complimentary beach sports equipment at its guest services?

Volleyballs, soccer balls, and beach tennis equipment are available daily from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm. Photo ID is required and rentals are subject to availability.

Beach courts and fields are available to the public on a first come, first served basis at no charge.

Beach Soccer

The Beach House has two regulation-size beach soccer fields that are available for public use. Bring your team or practice with friends. Fields are available on a first come, first served basis year-round at no charge.

Fields may be reserved no more than three days in advance through the online reservation system – $10 for 90 minutes. The reservation system is currently not accepting American Express.

Beach Volleyball

There are six beach volleyball courts on the sand next to the Beach House. Santa Monica State Beach is widely known as one of the birthplaces of beach volleyball and has been the home of a number of the sport’s champions.

Volleyball courts are available on a first come, first served basis year-round at no charge. Courts may be reserved no more than three days in advance through our online reservation system – $5 for 90 minutes. The reservation system is currently not accepting American Express.

Beach Tennis

Beach Tennis is a fast-paced new beach sport that is quickly growing on the west coast. A combination of beach volleyball, tennis, and badminton, beach tennis is a doubles game with all volleys played completely in the air.

Tennis equipment may be rented from Beach Rentals during the summer or borrowed from the Guest Services office during the off-season. First come, first served use of the courts and the option to reserve (no more than three days in advance) are available year-round – $5 for 90 minutes. The reservation system is currently not accepting American Express.

Surf Instruction

If you are interested in taking surf lessons on Santa Monica State Beach, please be sure that you are contacting one of the Surf Instructors permitted by the City of Santa Monica. These instructors help to maintain water safety and maximize public recreational opportunities on Santa Monica State Beach.

All of the Permitted Surf Instructors have been proven to provide the safest, highest quality surf instruction available. They make every effort to help you have a great day at the beach.

The Annenberg Community Beach House at Santa Monica State Beach is operated by the City of Santa Monica. The Beach House is made possible by a generous gift from the Annenberg Foundation, at the direction of Wallis Annenberg, and in partnership with the City of Santa Monica and California State Parks. Additional funding was provided by the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development.
