Third Annual Citywide Yard Sale This Saturday:

The City of Santa Monica hosts its Third Annual Citywide Yard Sale this Saturday, Sept. 22 where residents and local organizations are simultaneously selling items from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For the past few months, participants have been registering for the event and have been looking for to enjoy the benefits of being listed online with their featured items.

Anyone can go to the website – www.smgov.net/r3 – to view an interactive map with all sales happening on the day.

Shoppers will be able to search for sales by street, neighborhood, multi-family sales, sale category, and “notable” items identified by sellers.

When you click on a marking, the website will display which categories are available such as antiques, appliances, books, clothing, electronics, furniture, jewelry, and toys.

After residents and organizations finish selling their treasures at the end of the day, they are encouraged to survey what is leftover and determine what can be donated to local organizations using the Reuse Resource List available online (same website listed above).

Olympic High School is also encouraging sellers with leftover items to drop-off items at its campus at 721 Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica between noon and 4 p.m. on Saturday to help out with its Goodwill drive.

As part of the drive, for every large container they fill between now and Oct. 11 the school will receive $1,500.

YES items include clothing, bedding, books, household items, exercise weights, bicycles, wheeled toys, furniture, glassware, knick-knacks, shoes, bedframes, artwork, holiday decorations, jewelry, radios/stereos, small power tools, antiques, audio/visual equipment, cookware, crafts (in packaged sets), curtains (no rods), sporting goods, sleeping bags, TV’s, VCR’s/DVR’s, and e-waste (e-waste doesn’t have to be “working”; all other items have to be clean/in good shape).

NO items include metal desks or file cabinets, large appliances (stoves, refrigerators, etc.), baby strollers/cribs, exercise equipment (treadmills), mattresses/sofabeds, pianos, skis/boots, textbooks, wheelchairs, pool tables, auto parts, blinds (unless in original package), bolts of fabric, carpeting/padding, gas powered tools, guns/knives, ammunition, hazardous waste/paints, hangers, and wheelchairs/walkers.

Large bags and boxes or furniture can be dropped off to the school anytime before Oct. 11 or brought that day to its parking lot between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m.

It is also open for drop offs on weekdays from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. at the Olympic High Office (cable car painted on the side) or from 2:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at its Adult Education Office (room 8).
