The Twilight Concert Series may be over for another year, but the Santa Monica Pier is set to continue to attract locals when it presents Front Porch Cinema, a free community film experience coming to the pier every Friday starting this week, Sept. 28.
For four consecutive weeks the pier will be transformed into a front porch environment with vintage stylings, concessions, and a Cinema Lounge.
With an eclectic variety of films for different audiences, Front Porch Cinema will provide the perfect night of music, popcorn, interactive booths, food carts and refreshing beverages, all under the stars.
The Front Porch Cinema series, co-produced by LA’s premier outdoor screeners, Eat|See|Hear, will launch the season with the family classic “The Wizard of Oz.”
Attendees are encouraged to walk the yellow brick road and dress as their favorite film characters. The evening starts at 6 p.m. with a DJ spinning a specially programmed sunset playlist.
Santa Monica Pier Administrator Jay Farrand specially sourced vintage-style lawn chairs for the series to complete the front porch experience.
“We wanted to play up the pier’s iconic history while also creating a unique environment that evokes the comfort and warmth of your grandma’s front porch,” Farrand said. “Front Porch Cinema is the first of many exciting new events and programming that will be part of the rebranding of the pier over the next year.”
Guests can unwind on the old-fashioned lawn chairs and watch films on the oceanfront on a 40-foot Airscreen with a Digital High-Def Projection System. Viewers can bring their own chairs as a limited number will be available for rent.
Filmgoers are encouraged to take the Big Blue Bus to the Front Porch Cinema series. Parking will be available in the lot north of the pier at 1550 Pacific Coast Highway, and free bike valet will be provided.

My friends and I are coming from CalPoly Pomona and I was wondering if someone can recommend a way to get to the Santa Monica area tomorrow because of the freeway closing. Or would it even be feasible and worthwhile to try to make the drive to see the Front Porch Cinema? Thank you for any help you could provide. Sincerely, Jeanne
