INCOGNITO, Santa Monica Museum of Art's legendary benefit art sale hosted 600 guests on Saturday, May 2, which raised $315,000 for the organization. The event marked the new SMMoA Unbound experience, as the Museum plans its departure from Bergamot Station on May 31.

The newly opened P32 gallery in Santa Monica raised $9,000 for the Chase Foundation in the first week of its exhibition, "Filling the wHole." The exhibition runs until Dec. 4 with a goal of raising $15,000. More than 150 people attended the opening reception on Oct. 25.

Full Disclosure: My life partner of 27 years is an artist and I write for the theater, which possibly allows us to deploy the words “art” and “artists” at dinners and receptions. Thus we’re both inclined to want any plans for the future of Santa Monica’s Bergamot Station to be of the ‘please don’t-fix-it-if-it-ain’t-broke’ variety. Alas, I’m not certain that’s one of the options.

The Santa Monica City Council is not yet done with development in the Bergamot Station area. Just two weeks after formally approving the controversial Hines development agreement (DA) on second reading by a 4-3 vote, council members will be voting this Tuesday, Feb. 25 to allow the City Manager’s office to enter into an exclusive negotiating agreement with a developer to develop the Bergamot Station Arts Center.
