Less than 10 months after Santa Monica City decided to rip out most of the metal bus seats at City bus stops as part of an-almost $8 million initiative, the simple four-seaters are making a stealthy return; six bench seats have reappeared in Santa Monica over the past 10 days, complete with a fresh coat of blue paint.

Big Blue Bus (BBB) fares will change this Sunday, Jan. 10. BBB will adjust the regular base fare cash price from $1 to $1.25, offer a new 7-Day Pass for $14, and reduce many pass prices.

A lawsuit brought by the parents of a motorcyclist killed in a Nov. 20, 2012 accident with a Big Blue Bus is scheduled to go to trial on Dec. 8 at the Stanley Mosk Courthouse in downtown Los Angeles.

Big Blue Bus now has real-time bus arrival times on some smartphone apps like Transit. You can now check to see if the bus you are taking is stuck in traffic and will be delayed. On the Transit app, a user can see where the bus is and follow it all the way to their stop.

As of only a couple of weeks ago, Santa Monicans can now use an application called Transit to track the movement of their Big Blue Bus through real-time GPS updates. In addition to using the schedules posted at stops or looking online – which at best only gives a 30-minute window of when a bus could possibly be arriving – bus users can now see whether or not their bus is behind schedule.
