It was the top of the seventh inning with the bases loaded and two outs. The Santa Monica Vikings (20-10, 10-0) needed just one more out to cap off another victory and clinch their spot in the CIF playoffs against rival Culver City (18-6, 8-2), and the Vikings did just that winning the game 7-4 at home Thursday afternoon. Entering the final inning, the Vikings had held a comfortable 7-2 lead needing only three outs to complete their perfect record within league play. But with sophomore Andrew Brown on the mound for the final inning, things quickly started to take a turn for the worse and the Vikings slowly saw their lead shrink away.

It was the top of the third inning and the St. Monica (4-7) softball team was down 5-3 against Culver City (3-7) when Mariners Veronica Navarro bested Centaurs pitcher Jessica Faber by slapping an inside the park home run to make the game 5-4 at Veterans Memorial Park in Culver City Wednesday afternoon. Mariners Aliza Chacon got on base with a line drive grounder soon after and cautiously made her way to third base before she was hit in by Mariners Alyssa Gutierrez to tie the game 5-5. But that was as close as the Mariners would get to winning the game against the Centaurs who won the game 11-6.

When the first thing that comes out of your mouth is “it’s like a tactile orgasm” – there are three things you simultaneously think: 1) I hope nobody heard that. 2) Yep, they did, those people right there are looking at you with a strange expression. 3) The food and drink better be just as good.

Even without star setter Blossom Sato, the Santa Monica Vikings (3-0) volleyball team pulled off a win against rival Culver City (8-10) in three tight sets 25-22, 25-14, and 27-25 showing off a kill factory that will only add muscle and confidence to their season.
