Third Term Now Okay For Some Santa Monica Boards, Commissions

The Santa Monica City Council unanimously approved Nov. 26 a resolution modifying term limits for some boards and commissions, opening the door for appointed officials to serve a third term on a body where appointees have a specific professional expertise.

More time might not have been added to the development agreement process, yet buildings designated with historical significance will have a few more clicks on the clock to complete construction thanks to an emergency ordinance adopted Tuesday evening by the Santa Monica City Council.

Dedication Ceremony Held For New Santa Monica Landmark On Main Street

A plaque dedication ceremony was held Sunday, Dec. 16 at the City Landmark Biedler-Heuer Building at 2701-2705 Main Street, one of the original 1920’s commercial buildings that established Main Street as Ocean Park’s premier business street in the new era of the automobile.

"Chain Reaction" was granted landmark status on Monday night, but the ruling does not secure the sculpture's future.

‘Chain Reaction’ Receives Unanimous Vote For Landmark Status From Commission

The Santa Monica Landmarks Commission unanimously voted on Monday night to designate the late Paul Conrad’s 26-foot tall mushroom cloud sculpture “Chain Reaction” as a cultural landmark.

A team of structural engineers and art conservators will work together to assess whether “Chain Reaction” is a potential public safety hazard.
