Ken Genser Square Water Feature Update: Further Waterproofing Begins Today

Construction fencing will return today around the Ken Genser Square water feature for waterproofing and other work to prevent future problems.

The four Palisades Park training zones are Palisades Avenue to Alta, Montana Avenue to Palisades Avenue, Immediately north of Idaho Avenue, and Wilshire Blvd. to north public restroom.

Applications Open December 2 For Trainers To Apply For Park Permits

The City of Santa Monica will accept permit applications Dec. 2 through Dec. 16 for anyone seeking to conduct fitness or athletic instruction, classes, or camps for compensation -- financial or in exchange for goods or services -- in Santa Monica's public parks or at the beach.

Parks in Santa Monica have made headlines recently. City Hall and Sacramento have been tussling over redevelopment funding for Tongva Park, while private fitness trainers at Palisades Park are soon to be subjected to new fees and regulations starting Jan. 1. As debates ensue over two open spaces surrounding the downtown core, a new park may quietly be arriving near Bergamot Station: Buffer Park.

A one-year pilot program to begin Jan. 1, 2014 was ultimately approved in its second reading on Tuesday night.

The City of Santa Monica will celebrate the opening of its Civic Center Parks this Saturday. The parks encompass roughly seven ocean-view acres in Santa Monica’s Civic Center, stretching from the footsteps of City Hall to Ocean Avenue.

Tongva Park opened Tuesday as a family friendly destination with plenty of child friendly play spaces.

Santa Monica resident David Garden has walked past the front of City Hall every other day for the past year with a watchful eye on the construction of Ken Genser Square. A couple of months ago, he noticed there were some serious leakage problems with the new multi-tiered fountain project in front of City Hall.

The City of Santa Monica presents its 22nd annual Santa Monica Festival this Saturday at Clover Park, 2600 Ocean Park Boulevard, from 11 am to 6 pm. The free event will feature live music, dance performances, art workshops, food trucks, cooking demonstrations, fitness classes, and other interactive activities that reflect the culture and diversity of the city.
