The Santa Monica High School’s softball team took home the CIF Division 4 Championship title on May 31. With a team of 17 girls, the accomplishment was no easy feat.

When it comes to inspirational football films, “Rudy” is often the gold standard. Here in Santa Monica, the City’s namesake high school has a “Rudy” of its own, and his name is Matthew Tapia. The 18-year-old-senior is the subject of short documentary.

Alex Gironda finally has his no-hitter. Behind the senior pitcher's 86-pitch, eight-strikeout, no-hit performance, the Santa Monica High School Vikings defeated the West Covina High School Bulldogs in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs 5-0, Friday afternoon.

On the final Monday morning of February 2013, a handful of members of the Westboro Baptist Church took to the streets of Santa Monica and briefly protested in front of Santa Monica High School. The Kansas-based organization believed Samohi’s policy of being accepting of those in the gay and lesbian community was a little too friendly.

The Santa Monica High School baseball team is one of the best squads in the CIF Southern Section Division III bracket. In fact, Samohi is the second ranked team in their division.

The Santa Monica High School athletic department has released details for tryouts for many of its sport programs. Student athletes interested in participating in football and want to try out for the sport, should come out June 30 until August 8.

Serafina King wasn’t too fond of getting into the swimming pool at an early age. In fact, King, who takes classes at Santa Monica High School, downright despised learning how to swim.

Some local basketball players were named to the All-CIF Southern Section 2013-14 teams. From the Westside, it was Shanon Volpis from Pacifica Christian. When you have a player like Windward’s Jordin Canada on your side of town, it is easy to get overlooked.

An online petition to reinstate a Santa Monica High School teacher involved in a physical altercation with a student has collected more than 3,500 signatures while a Facebook group "We Support Coach Black of Samohi" has passed 10,000 members.

Jennifer Gsell and Quinn D’Andrea have been named winners of the National YoungArts Foundation’s 2014 YoungArts competition in the discipline of popular voice. They are both seniors that attend Santa Monica High School and met in the high school’s choir department directed by Mr. Jeffe Hulls.
