Students from local ballet school Dance Studio No. 1 invite the community to celebrate the holiday season next month during two performances. Two productions are being prepared for community presentation: “Peter and the Wolf” performed by the school’s junior dancers aged 6-11, and “Dances Through the Year” performed by the senior dancers aged 12-18.

It was a good run for the Santa Monica High School football team. Coach Travis Clark had his team in position to contend for the Ocean League title, which they fell just short. The Vikings earned a berth into the postseason after finishing second in the Ocean League, losing only to eventual league champs Culver City in overtime.

Samohi fell behind early, rallied late, but ultimately lost to Culver City 17-14 in overtime. The Vikings fell down 14-0 at halftime. But in the second half it was a different story. Led by the inspired rushing attack of running back Kwame Duggins, Samohi squad fought back to tie the ballgame with just over 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.

Although the score looked unforgiving and the stats showed the Santa Monica High School Vikings (2-1) turned the ball over just as many times as they completed a pass (three), head coach Travis Clark was surprisingly upbeat after the 37-0 loss to Mater Dei (4-0) on Friday.

Last year, it was running back Will Taylor lighting up the Stadium by the Sea with three touchdowns on the ground. On Friday night, he set up the spotlight for fellow senior Kwame Duggins, as the Samohi Vikings power game rolled to a 44-15 win over the Pali High Dolphins.

With under a minute left in the Santa Monica High School (1-0) football game against Redondo Union (1-1) head coach Travis Clark breathed a sigh of relief as the Vikings had come back from a 14-7 deficit that was crowned by a field goal by Denicio Gonzalez-Drake to win the game 17-14 at Redondo Union High School Friday night. Clark was happy with the outcome of the game and that the Vikings played for four full quarters. "We won," said Clark. "We made a lot of mistakes but it's awesome because they are correctable."

Santa Monica High School football is ready to take on the competition with their intense style of division one play returning a number of starters to lead a team that went undefeated in the Ocean League at 5-0 and posted an impressive 8-4 overall record for the 2013 season. Vikings football head coach Travis Clark said that he has seen the excitement for the return of fall football pervade the campus at Samohi. "Everybody is excited about football," said Clark "The spirit is in the air."
