When the 2015 Special Olympics World Games come to Los Angeles in July, the city of Santa Monica hopes to create memories of a lifetime for about 100 lucky athletes in the lead-up to the Games as part of a Home Town program.

The unique holiday program offers discounted hotel rates to Santa Monica residents through Jan. 23, 2015.

Five Things To Know About Santa Monica's Spring 2014 Visitors

The Santa Monica Convention & Visitors Bureau this week released its latest tourism update with spring visitor statistics. The SMCVB said typical spring visitor groups were 58 percent international in origin (from 54 percent in spring 2013), while 43 percent (versus 46 percent) were from the United States (excluding California), and Californians comprised 14 percent (12 percent in 2013).

Very few initiatives pass through the Santa Monica City Council as smoothly as the proposal to establish the Santa Monica Tourism Marketing District (SMTMD). Santa Monica City Council To Consider Tourism District To Boost Occupancy

For tourists visiting Southern California, Santa Monica is a likely destination. City officials are weighing up a new plan in a bid to not only attract more tourists to Santa Monica, but also encourage them to stay in one of the city’s many hotels. Council members filed and received a report Tuesday by City staff to consider the development of a new assessment district that “would be a self-imposed and self-governed benefit assessment district designed to help fund marketing and sales promotion efforts for Santa Monica hotels.”

Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel has been transformed into the headquarters for the American Film Market, which runs through Nov. 7 with events across Santa Monica.

Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel welcomed Halloween with no vacancies, but there were no trick-or-treaters filling the bars, lounges, and rooms.
