This week is my birthday. I turn 55. This means a lot of things. I now can buy a 55-plus home at a Del Webb development. My AARP card is more meaningful to me now, entitling me to a plethora of discounts - hotels, restaurants, car rental, cruises, prescription drugs, movies, you name it.

League To Celebration “Women Who Shape Santa Monica”

The League of Women Voters of Santa Monica will honor four local women for their outstanding contributions to the welfare of the city on Thursday, March 27.

Desiree Sol is the second transgender woman to be named Woman of the Year since the honor became an annual tradition in Sacramento in 1987.

Assemblyman Richard Bloom formally introduced Desiree Jade Sol the 2014 Woman of the Year for his 50th District in a ceremony held Monday in Sacramento. The festivities were part of Women’s History Month, which continues through March.

FOX 11 news anchor Christine Devine and Santa Monica Chief of Police Jacqueline Seabrooks will be honored with ‘Owlie’ Awards in Santa Monica on March  7.
