Jordan Wilimovsky of Malibu qualified for a spot on the 2016 U.S. Olympic team on Monday by winning the men's 10-kilometer open water swimming race at the FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Fire Station 59 hosted a Special Olympics visit for the Italian delegation in Brentwood on Wednesday.

Saturday's nearly 3 1/2-hour opening ceremony at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum began with a videotaped welcome by President Barack Obama and ended with the lighting of the Olympic torch in the peristyle end.

First Medals Of Special Olympics World Games To Be Awarded Today

The first medals of the 2015 Special Olympics World Games will be awarded today, one day after first lady Michelle Obama officially opened Los Angeles' largest sporting event since the 1984 Summer Olympics.

Several of the Romania Olympic World Games members striking their pose in front of the Romanian Parliament building. They will spend time in Santa Monica before the Special Olympics begin in Los Angeles on July 25.

Huntington Beach police have much the same game plan this year for the U.S. Open of Surfing, which begins today and runs through Aug. 2, and are hoping security goes as smoothly as last year.

Father's Day 2015: Special Events In L.A. To Honor Dads

Father's Day will be marked in Los Angeles County today by two events honoring fathers while today's Los Angeles Dodgers game at Dodger Stadium will include efforts to increase awareness of prostate cancer and raising funds to fight the disease.

Retired Santa Monica College Kinesiology professor Jo Kidd was recognized at the annual Meiklejohn National Seniors Tournament on June 5 in Laguna Woods, CA for founding the College’s Community Recreation program and introducing table tennis at SMC as a physical education course with transferable units.  SMC’s table tennis program was also inducted into the California Table Tennis Hall of Fame.

The Santa Monica College Table Tennis Program was inducted Friday (June 5) into the California Table Tennis Hall of Fame. The ceremony – part of the renowned annual Meiklejohn National Seniors Tournament in Laguna Woods, CA – also included an award to SMC’s Department of Kinesiology & Athletics for its success in promoting three annual USA Table Tennis (USATT) tournaments, and an award honoring retired SMC professor Jo KIdd for founding SMC’s Community Recreation (Co-Rec) Program and introducing table tennis (often called “ping-pong”) at SMC as a physical education course with transferable units.
