Samohi Soccer Team Rules!
Sonia Sohaili Mirror contributing writer
Samohi’s soccer team is dominating the field this year, stepping up to
its competition and focusing on teamwork to achieve success.
The team’s victories can be attributed, in part, to its strong leaders
— Ross Cooper, Artur Szczepanek, Michael Eiler, and Ari Zlotoff. The
quartet has shown strong determination and tact this year, but the
team as a whole is playing well, winning games decisively and aiming
for a top ranking in the Bay League.
On January 7, in a game against Mira Costa, the boys’ extensive
training and conditioning paid off as Samohi won 3-0.
On January 12, in a match with South Torrance, one of the Vikings’
chief rivals, Samohi was able to send the game into overtime with a
quick comeback during the second half, that ended in a 1-1 tie.
But two days later, the Vikings’ winning ways returned. On January 14,
Samohi outplayed West Torrance decisively 5-0, and on January 16, it
whipped North Torrance 3-0.
On January 21, the Vikings lost to Torrance 0-1, then roared back to
win its next two games on January 28 and 30, defeating Hawthorne 5-2,
and Beverly Hills 3-1.
The team’s strong showing has won it lots of support on campus and in
the larger community, and the Vikings remain in the running for a top
spot in the Bay League. |
