SMPD arrest suspect for

Earlier this week, the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) arrested John Douglas Steuart, a 57 year- old male from Huntington Beach, for his possible involvement in an assault with a vehicle.
According to Lieutenant Saul Rodriguez, on March 23, at about 9:18 a.m., SMPD officers responded to a radio call for service in the parking lot of, 1301 4th Street, regarding an assault with a deadly weapon.
Officers responded to the scene and determined a male suspect driving a white 4-door cross-over type vehicle was attempting to exit the parking lot without paying the parking fee.
“The parking attendant (victim) confronted the suspect about the payment due. While the victim was in front of the vehicle, the suspect accelerated the vehicle striking the victim causing her to fall to the ground. While the victim was on the ground, the suspect continued to accelerate striking the victim a second time. The suspect drove off at a high rate of speed,” reads
According to Rodriquez, The Santa Monica Fire Department (SMFD) Paramedics responded to the scene and treated the victim. The victim was transported to a local hospital for further treatment and released having suffered a broken leg.
Following a preliminary investigation, detectives developed information leading to Steuart as the primary suspect involved in the incident. On April 1, 2019, SMPD Officers located Steuart and the involved vehicle in Pacific Palisade and took him into custody.
Steuart has been booked for 245(a)(1) PC – Assault with a deadly weapon. The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office – Airport Branch for filing consideration.
