Court Ruling Clears the Way for Santa Monica to Proceed with Eviction Actions at Santa Monica Airport:

City of Santa Monica has filed Unlawful Detainer (UDs) actions in Superior Court in Santa Monica to force Atlantic Aviation and American Flyers to vacate Santa Monica Airport, where both are operating under leases that have expired. Having served both businesses with 30-day notices to vacate which have been ignored, the next step is to sue for possession of the City-owned property and facilities via the UD action.

Congressman Lieu Statement On City Of Santa Monica Resolution To Close Santa Monica Airport:

Congressman Ted W. Lieu (D | Los Angeles County) issued the following statement in response to the Santa Monica City Council’s adoption of a resolution to close the Santa Monica Airport as soon as legally permitted. The resolution also calls for the adoption of a policy to establish exclusive public proprietary Fixed Based Operations (FBO) Services. The measure was passed by the City Council on Tuesday, August 23, 2016.

Airport Park

The Future of Airport Park:

On Saturday morning, Santa Monica residents gathered at Santa Monica’s Airport Park to learn about and give feedback on the park’s future expansion and how it might affect the city.

Mark Rios, who founded his own design firm in 1985, is spearheading the project. The event began with a comprehensive presentation by Rios outlining his priorities as well as three proposed plans for what the completed park might look like. The project aims to incorporate 12 acres of non-aviation land adjacent to the existing park, practically tripling its size.
