A 51-year-old homeless woman who made more than 50 time-wasting 911 calls from a payphone in Santa Monica was arrested on Thursday, June 25.
An officer of the Santa Monica Police Department was called out to attend a public payphone located in the 700 block of Santa Monica Blvd. at 5:35 pm that was being utilized by an individual to make numerous pointless 911 calls.
The dispatcher informed the attending officer that at that time the suspect was speaking with another dispatcher after the suspect had made yet another bogus 911 call.
The suspect was also being observed by an area CCTV camera. The officer was also informed that during that morning this person had made more than 50 such time-wasting calls to 911 dispatchers.
The content of these calls mainly consisted of the suspect rambling incoherently and claiming that President Barak Obama had done something wrong (that could be perceived as being correct depending upon an individual’s political stripe, but would not typically require a call to 911).
When the officers arrived at the location the officers asked the suspect if she needed assistance but the suspect refused to answer.
The suspect then informed the officer that he did not appear to be a genuine police officer.
Based upon the fact that this individual had made such a large number of unwarranted 911 calls that day the officer decided to arrest this homeless woman and she was later charged with misuse of the 911 system. Bail was set in the amount of $500.
