The Kiwanis Club of Santa Monica held its 65th Annual Music Awards at the Santa Monica Library on Tuesday.
Santa Monica High School student Hailey Hoffman (soprano), first place winner in the High School vocal division, sung “FrŸhlingsstimmen” (“Voices of Spring”) at the event.
Twenty-seven students, grades 6th through 12th, competed from the Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District, receiving $11,775 in scholarships for musicianship in vocal, wind, and string instrument categories.
First place winners Hoffman, Mollie Bernstein (oboe), and Jeffrey Ho (cello) performed representing the 11th and 12th grade winners. Isobel Anthony (soprano), Isaac Horwitz-Hirsch (trumpet), and Caroline Ho (cello) represented the 9th and 10th grades.
Rachel Lamell (soprano), Annie Huang (flute), and Juliet Pooler (violin) represented the middle school students.
Also winning awards for middle school were second place vocal, Rosalind Jewett, third place vocal, Josiah Lax, second place winds, Adya Mohanty, third place winds, Lea Yamashiro, second place strings, Rufus Bordal, and third place strings, Emma Ware.
Ninth and tenth grade winners were second place vocal, Maggie Valdman, third place vocal, Sarah Johnson, second place winds, Yanjun Li, third place winds, Hayden Kirschbaum, second place strings, Celia Daggy, and third place strings, Luna Suzuki.
Eleventh and Twelfth Grade winners were second place vocal, Sintra Martins, third place vocal, Hana Chwe, second place winds, Sarah Ohanian, third place winds, Sophie Horwitz-Hirsch, second place strings, Finn Bordal, and third place strings, Thomas Lin, Jr.
