Police Arrest Violent Man Inside St. John’s Hospital In Santa Monica: Alert Police Blotter: Emergency In The Room.

Santa Monica police arrested a 40-year-old LA man on Thursday, Jan. 3 after he became violent and punched two security personnel soon after being checked into St. John’s Hospital.

At 2:41 a.m., officers of the Santa Monica Police Department were called out to the medical facility at 2121 Santa Monica Boulevard in order to investigate a report of a man who was assaulting hospital staff.

When the officers arrived they were met by staff near the Emergency Room.

As they were being greeted they witnessed a number of security guards who were wrestling with a man who was on a gurney.

The officers leapt into action and assisted the security guards in constraining the man.

The officers then began a series of interviews with the victims and through these exchanges they discovered that this combative man had arrived at the Emergency Room after being taken there by paramedics from the Los Angeles City Fire Department for unspecified medical reasons.

While medical staff at the hospital began examining this man he became violent and punched two security personnel many times in the face and body with a clenched fist.

The officers acquired clearance from the medical staff that this man was fit enough to be arrested so they did just that and this Los Angeles resident was charged with assault and battery.

Bail was granted in the sum of $20,000.

Editor’s Note: These reports are part of a regular police coverage series entitled “Alert Police Blotter” (APB), which injects some minor editorial into certain police activities in Santa Monica. Not all of the Mirror’s coverage of incidents involving police are portrayed in this manner. More serious crimes and police-related activities are regularly reported without editorial in the pages of the Santa Monica Mirror and its website, smmirror.com.
