Santa Monica police are asking for the public’s help following the stabbing of a 22-year-old man on Monday afternoon at approximately 4:15 pm near the intersection of Cloverfield and Pico Blvds.
SMPD Sgt. Rudy Camarena said the victim was seated at the westbound Pico Blvd. bus stop with his girlfriend. The bus stop is near Virginia Avenue Park.
“Three male hispanic suspects approached them from the west and asked, ‘Where are you from?’” Camarena said. “The victim suspected he was going to be attacked and immediately stood up. The suspects never claimed a gang, but immediately began to attack the victim.”
Camarena said one suspect threw a block of wood at him, that was later recovered as evidence.
“One of the suspects stabbed the victim’s left side and immediately ran away northbound on Cloverfield Blvd.,” he said. “SMPD and SMFD arrived, established a crime scene, and began treating the victim. The victim was transported to a local medical facility for treatment.”
The victim’s injuries are not life threatening, Camarena said.
