Santa Monica Police To Ramp Up Law Enforcement At Twilight Concert Series:

The format of the 2014 Twilight Concert Series will be changed to reduce the size of crowds.

With the return of the Twilight Concert Series on July 10, the Santa Monica Police Department says it will be enforcing laws governing the beach and the Santa Monica Pier regarding alcohol, glass bottles, and smoking.

The series, now in its 30th year, will be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the Santa Monica Pier every Thursday night for 10 weeks with the last performance occurring on September 11.

2014 Twilight Concert Series Line-Up Announced

SMPD Lt. Jay Moroso said throughout the history of the series the event has grown in popularity with regard to the number of participants who have come to watch the bands and enjoy the music.

Moroso said the SMPD is committed to ensuring the safety of everyone that participates in the event.

“We would like everyone to enjoy the event and have a good time but we would also like to remind everyone attending, that alcohol, glass bottles, and smoking are not permitted on the beach,” Moroso said. “The laws governing the beach and Pier will be enforced. As a result of the increase in popularity and attendance to the event and our commitment to public safety, the Santa Monica Police Department will be supplementing our police coverage of the concert series with additional personnel.”

Moroso said this supplementation will include the presence of some Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputies, who will be teamed up with a Santa Monica Police Officer.

He said they will be deployed to keep the peace and ensure that participants are not creating an environment that would compromise the safety of the event.
