Santa Monica's Omelette Parlor On Main Street To Close Today After 37 Years

After 37 years, The Ocean Park Omelette Parlor at 2732 Main Street in Santa Monica will close its doors for the final time today, Dec. 18 at 2:30 pm.

Since the fall of 1977 The Ocean Park Omelette Parlor has been serving the local community and tourists those large over stuffed omelettes and tasty potatoes that generations have come to love.

Owner Bob Hausenbauer said an "equitable negotiation with the landlord had failed to be reached and the landlord refused to negotiate any further.”

He said the landlord is American Commercial Equities Management of Malibu.

With its cozy yellow and green dining room and bright garden patio this destination has been a welcoming place of family and fellowship since the day it opened.

Hausenbauer said he vigorously continues to seek a location that will accommodate his customers and future growth, and hopes to serve his customers again in the near future.

He can be reached at the restaurant or via email at Restaurant.Wise@gmail.com.

ACEM probably has plans to tear the building down to build a 17 story mixed use hotel with the blessing of the city council. Best of luck with a new location for this restaurant.

How sad. Shame on the Landlord. Instead of being grateful for having a solid tenant, all they care about is squeezing more dollars out of someone else. Greed is bad karma.

Oh great, another long time institution on Main Street going away because of greedy landlords and only to be replaced by a high priced eatery.

I wonder what they're going to replace it with... Anyone know? I'm sure the landlord didn't want to negotiate since he probably already has something in mind. Didn't really like the food at Omelette Parlor, but it's always sad seeing a local eatery close down.

I'm heading over there right now for a last chance lunch. They have served the community well for so many years. The Omelette Parlor will truly be missed.

I grew up in Ocean Park when Main st was all mom and pop stores that one by one were priced out, we called that revitalization. What do we refer to this era as?

As a Santa Monica resident within walking distance of the Omelette Parlor I'm saddened to hear this news. Things change and evolve and some things in Santa Monica are getting better, but other developments like this reflect a shrinking middle class and ascendent 1%. For me there are fewer and fewer local businesses I want to patronize.
