Twist, Turn & Tango At Arthur Murray Dance Center In Santa Monica

As couples rhythmically twist, turn, and tango to Lorde’s “Royals” blasting as background music, an unexpected marriage between modern pop music and classic partner dance is created every time a lesson is taught within the walls of Santa Monica’s newly opened Arthur Murray Dance Center.

Sa'eeda has been studying Middle Eastern dance since she was a teenager, performing professionally beginning in 1990, and teaching since 1997.

Holiday Bellydance Show This Saturday Night In Santa Monica

Professional Bellydance performer and instructor, Sa’eeda, will be hosting a Holiday Bellydance Show this Saturday night along with her troupe, Sirens of the Sahara, at the Marine Park Recreation Center Auditorium in Santa Monica from 6:30 pm to 9 pm.

SoCal Ballet presents the students of Dance Studio No. 1 in presentations of “Peter and the Wolf” and an original revue, “Dances Through the Year.”

Local Dance Youth Present Holiday Recital This Weekend

Students from local ballet school Dance Studio No. 1 invite the community to celebrate the holiday season next month during two performances. Two productions are being prepared for community presentation: “Peter and the Wolf” performed by the school’s junior dancers aged 6-11, and “Dances Through the Year” performed by the senior dancers aged 12-18.

John Cassese, “The Dance Doctor,” is pairing with The Salvation Army for a charity event to help eliminate hunger in Los Angeles. It is entitled Dance to Donate, and will involve adults receiving a free one-hour dance lesson on Monday nights through Dec. 9 if they bring in a canned food item. The studio is located at 1440 4th Street in Santa Monica. This has been going on every Monday night at 7 pm and 8 pm for the month of November. Cassese encourages people to continue to donate at The Salvation Army’s Holiday Food Drive drop-off location at The Dance Doctor studio even after the free dance classes conclude. The winter holiday season would not be complete without a local production of “The Nutcracker.” Westside Ballet of Santa Monica, in association with the Santa Monica College Symphony, presents its 40th Anniversary Nutcracker performances at the Broad Stage this weekend on Saturday and Sunday.

“An American Tango – The Story of Veloz and Yolanda” pays homage to Frank Veloz and Yolanda Casazza Veloz, a very famous dance couple in the 1930s and 1940s who graced the cover of “Life Magazine” which declared them the Number One Ballroom Dance Couple in America. At the height of their careers, they were earning $8,000 a week, a huge amount of money for that period.

MixMatch Dance Festival Returns To Santa Monica Tonight Through Sunday

The 7th Annual MixMatch Dance Festival returns to Santa Monica with five shows today through Sunday. The festival kicks off with its first show tonight at 7:30 pm at the Miles Memorial Playhouse at 1130 Lincoln Boulevard.

The City of Santa Monica presents its 22nd annual Santa Monica Festival this Saturday at Clover Park, 2600 Ocean Park Boulevard, from 11 am to 6 pm. The free event will feature live music, dance performances, art workshops, food trucks, cooking demonstrations, fitness classes, and other interactive activities that reflect the culture and diversity of the city.
