Leadership, creativity, ambition…Santa Monica New Roads High School senior Amanda Gorman has it all. Not only is she the first ever Youth Poet Laureate of Los Angeles, but Gorman is a 2015 fellow of the ANNpower Vital Voices Initiative, a selective organization focused on developing leadership skills in young women worldwide.

Through a simulated high school party re-enacted by Santa Monica students, parents and adults will tour scenes of a mock party, and witness the drinking, drug use, and social pressures that can occur at such gatherings.

Miles Memorial Playhouse presents the 9th Annual Santa Monica Teen Film Festival at 4 pm this Saturday. The event will feature close to 50 short films, submitted from across the nation as well as around the world, with about half made by young filmmakers based in Santa Monica and Los Angeles County.
