We Don’t Need It:

The full page ad Macerich ran last week showed a charming little village scene with lots of happy people. What it conveniently doesn’t show are the three 21-story towers looming over the area. I guess they just don’t fit with the homey look they are trying to sell us. Nor does it show the thousands more cars per day that our already congested streets will have to handle to accommodate the increased traffic load.

The ad says “Some perceptions may not be entirely accurate. Initial presentations referred to a high-rise residential concept.” Three 21-story towers are not a “perception,” they are just huge buildings.

Even though the ad has little smiley faced families, we don’t need such a large development of our city.
