Franklin Readers Raise $18,496 for UNICEF:

In the wake of the devastating tsunami in South Asia, the 800 students at Franklin Elementary School held a read-a-thon to benefit School in a Box, UNICEF’s Tsunami Relief Fund.

The read-a-thon ran from January 11 to February 17. The children, in grades K through 5, earned money based on the number of books or pages they read.In all, the readers raised $18,496.39. A check in that amount will be presented to a UNICEF representative at the school assembly on Thursday.
