Lori Wilson, M.D., surgical oncology fellow at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, recently received the Santa Monica Gems’ Business & Professional Award at the 30th Annual Black Experience Program. The annual award show recognizes outstanding African-Americans in Santa Monica in business, community service, creative arts, athletics and youth achievement. In addition to her clinical research and treatment of breast cancer and melanoma, Dr. Wilson is actively involved in several community-based programs, including the Center for Healthy Aging, LA Witness Project and the Women’s Ministry at Double Rock Baptist Church in Compton. “I am honored to receive this award from the Santa Monica Gems and hope that I can inspire other members to donate their time and effort toward helping the community,” Dr. Wilson said.
