4200 Kids Take a Stand in the Sand:

On Ocean Day, May 20, 7500 students turned out up and down the coast, from Humboldt County to San Francisco and Los Angeles to San Diego, for the 12th annual Kids Adopt A Beach Clean Up.

4200 of them, from 48 Los Angeles schools, scoured   Dockweiler Beach in Playa del Ray, and then, under the direction of Los Angeles environmentalist and artist, John Quigley, formed a giant image of a fish on oxygen and the words RESTORE BALANCE to remind the world that the health of the ocean must be a top priority.

Michael Klubock, executive director and founder of the   Malibu Foundation for Environmental Education, created this annual event in Los Angeles and it is now a program of both the Coastal Commission and the City of Los Angeles. The Coastal Commission coordinates the state-wide program.
