Smith and Huffington To Appear at 826LA:

Two women who have carved unique niches for themselves in contemporary American culture, Anna Deavere Smith and Arianna Huffington, will appear at the next Evening at 826LA Thursday, May 12.

Smith, playwright, actress, winner of a 1996 MacArthur Foundation genius award and NYU professor, is perhaps best known for her award-winning plays, Fires in the Mirror and Twilight: Los Angeles, in which she plays multiple roles and addresses issues of race and community in America from diverse points of view. She also recently completed several seasons as President Bartlett’s National Security Advisor on The West Wing.

Huffington is the author of 10 books, a syndicated columnist, a onetime candidate for governor of California, and has just launched a new blog, The Huffington Post (see related story, page 9). Her latest book is Fanatics and Fools: The Game Plan for Winning Back America.

The discussion will begin at 7:30 p.m. Seating is limited.

Tickets are $25 at the door. All proceeds will benefit 826LA, which is located in the SPARC Building, 685 Venice Boulevard in Venice.For more information, call (310) 305-8418.
