Malibu Wins

Ray Humphrey, an assistant coach at Santa Monica High for 12 years, earned his first win as the head football coach at Malibu High last Friday. a 20-8 victory over Ribet Academy. Malibu will play Saturday at Clark Field in Lakewood, opposing Brethren Christian of Huntington Beach.

Malibu intercepted five passes, two by Sandro Delio. Running back Miles Edman gained 160 yards on 31 carries and scored a touchdown. Garrett Brizendine returned from an injury and played well.

“After we lost our first game the practice atmosphere changed,” said Humphrey. “The defense stepped up.”

Venice Defeated

Venice High played at Corsair Field Friday and lost a non-league game to Loyola, 28-13. It will play Santa Monica Friday, also at Corsair Field. Santa Monica is ranked No. 8 in CIF Division 4.

Girls Volleyball

Lighthouse Christian of Santa Monica is ranked No. 1 in Division 5A. Brentwood is No. 7 in 4AA.

New Roads will play a Harbor League match against Price Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Boys Cross Country

Brentwood is ranked No. 6 in Division 5.New Roads will participate in the Westside League meet Tuesday at 4 p.m. The meet is being hosted by Community Harvest.
