A coalition of University of California faculty, staff and students has mobilized to oppose the November 8 special election and Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s “unwelcome propositions.”
At a kick-off forum at UCLA on the election, keynote speaker Karen Bass will address the propositions that, according to the organizers, are “potentially most damaging to UCLA, including Proposition 74 (teacher tenure), Proposition 75 (union political contributions) and Proposition 76 (budget authority).”
The forum is scheduled at 3 p.m. this afternoon in the Ackerman Grand Ballroom at UCLA.
Jenny Wood, USAC President, will emcee. Scheduled to speak are Bass, California State Assemblywoman from LA, Joshua Pechthalt, United Teachers Los Angeles, and Lakesha Harrison, President AFSCME 3299.Endorsers include AFSCME, UC-AFT, APALA Student Committee, California Federation of Teachers (CFT), California Nurses Association (CNA), California Professional Firefighters, Concerned API Students for Action, Conciencia Libre, CUE, Movimiento Estudiantil Chicana/o de Aztlan (MEChA), Muslim Student Association (MSA), Office of the Americas, Social Justice Alliance, Student Worker Front, UAW, UPTE, Jenny Wood (President) and Jeannie Biniek (External VP) of UCLA Undergraduate Students Association Council (USAC).
