Over 40 volunteers — parents and children — spent last Saturday at John Adams Middle School, pruning overgrown shrubs, scrubbing and repairing bathroom fixtures, painting over graffiti, washing windows and lunch tables and picking up trash.Maintenance is an ongoing challenge at the school, according to Duilio Cascio, the parent volunteer organizer, with only one custodian in the morning and one in the evening for a student population of 1,100.
